Here are ten important things you need to know:1. Gameplay - Simply put, Rage is fun. The controls feel smooth and natural as you progress through an exciting world of action and suspense. The gameplay is mostly linear, but there is enough variety to keep it interesting. Furthermore, the sidequests are fun, and they mesh well with the pace of the game. Rage doesn't push too many boundaries, but it doesn't feel like it needs to. 2. Graphics - The world of Rage is as rich and beautiful as a post-apocalyptic world can be. Up close, the textures appear slightly low-res, but that barely impacts the overall presentation. Minor texture popping is an issue, although it has mostly been remedied with recent updates. 3. Characters - The characters that live in Rage are vibrant and well-voiced, but they are ultimately unmemorable. Some blame is due to the fact that you never get... Our hero emerges into the world after been cocooned into the underground shelter known as the Vault - no, strike that: the Ark, the Ark! The year is 2029 and, following a near-extinction event (namely, the asteroid Apophis spiraling down Earth's gravity well) humanity has pealed back the last vestiges of our civilized facade. Small surviving communities fight to the death for the small pockets of land, shelter and water. They fight off brutal bandits, persistent mutants and each other. SHOOT. LOOT. BARTER. UPGRADE. REPEAT UNTIL SATISFIED. RAGE is a RolePlaying Shooter (RPS), although it plays much more like an FPS than an RPG. There is no leveling up and you have no real inventory. On the other hand, you get missions (apparently no one strained any creativity muscle to think those up), you keep what you kill, you sell the junk you do not need and upgrade whenever you can. There are... RAGE attempts to incorporate both on-foot shooting and third-person buggy-driving combat as part of an "open-world" concept. Its setting is heavily based on Mad Max and other post-apocalyptic standards; following a comet strike on the Earth, the surviving humans basically turned into the cliche division of honest settlers and evil raiders in football gear. Really, there's not much more of an explanation beyond that: you play an individual with special technology who was locked into a survival pod before the comet hit, and when you emerge there's "raiders and stuff". A low-story game isn't a bad thing - that allows it to focus on gameplay, after all. However, despite their barely developed setting, the game insists on trying to shove story... Read more |
