I'd suggest starting with The Legend first, or buy the collection that includes The Legend, Princess and Crossworlds (expansion pack for Princess). I enjoyed Heroes of MM I-III quite a bit, but also like the King's Bounty games. The games are simpler in that you don't have a set of castles that you must defend, and battles for enemy castles are the same as regular battles on the world map. That can be a good thing because you're free to roam around the lands without rushing back to defend your home. Also, unlike Heroes of MM, the enemy strengths are fixed (with more distant lands holding stronger enemies) so you don't have enemies becoming impossibly strong if you don't attack them soon enough. In Heroes I always hated having to rush off before I quite wanted to because the designers had given the computer armies that... So, I started shopping around for try-before-you-buy offers and am pleased to find this one. I cannot comment on the full version of the game since I don't own it (yet) but this demo was sweet. I'll just skip to my pros and cons, but before I do I'll just simply say it's worth the price of FREE. Pros: 3 difficulty levels. The "easy" is like God mode in Doom. Your armies will just roll through the baddies. 3 different types of leaders: Warrior, Wizard, and Palidan (a cross between Warrior Wizard). This changes the make-up of your armies (and with Wizard, you don't even need an army, really, with the lvl3 Geyser spell). Graphics look pretty sweet in the fight sequences. Think Battle Chess. Cons: The world graphics are a bit pixilated. When you're flying, you can't land just anywhere. While that might be logical,... I have started it a number of times and have failed to finish. It is more boring than King's Bounty, for what it is worth. It is, however, very well done. It might be fun for you--just not for me. |
